Michal Hofkin joined UL as a Lead Regulatory Engineer in the Codes and Regulatory Services Department in May of 2021. Michal is responsible to lead UL’s regulatory efforts in the northeast United States serving the Eastern Section of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) and other industry entities. He will provide code expertise and standards-related guidance to regulatory authorities, manufacturers, designers, and contractors. Michal will also lead and actively participate in model code development efforts and support code-based advisory services solutions for UL clients and municipalities in these disciplines.
Before joining UL, Michal enjoyed a twenty-three-year career as an electrical inspector in the Philadelphia metropolitan area, with the last ten years serving as the regional manager for a large, multi-state inspection agency. He is a certified electrical inspector and plans examiner. Michal has been an instructor of electrical code and trade courses for over thirty-five years and is a former master electrician in four states. He is the past president of the IAEI Eastern Section, and he is the former chairman of the IAEI International Board of Directors. Michal is very active in the code development process, writing public inputs and public comments, has served on an NEC code-making panel, is a former member of several UL Standards Technical Panels, and is a current member of the Sustainable Energy Action Committee (SEAC).
